A Blind Person can sell real estate........

I do not make that statement as a negative comment toward anyone, but it is the reality.

My mentor is a real estate broker that became blind as a teenager but kept his dream of becoming a realtor.  He graduated college, became an agent, then a broker, then got his doctorate in Real Estate Law and Mediation.  He has been an extremely successful agent and broker in one of the highest valued land in America, La Jolla.  He once told me that he believes that he has an advantage over sighted people.  There is a long story behind that statement, but he does believe that he can outsell you and me....and he does.  He has a successful brokerage office on one of the main streets in La Jolla and continually wins awards after awards.

How does he do it?  If you were to ever meet and talk with him, you would feel foolish as he answers questions as would one of top agents in the country would.  I carry an ad I saw many many years ago of his in my back pocket as a reminder that no matter how bad things may seem, there is a blind man in California kicking my butt.  i.e. There really are not excuses in this business, save what one believes to be an excuse in their mind.  Only your mind can limit you.

He not only sells in La Jolla, but sells through southern and northern California.  He told me that he had sold two condos in San Francisco last year.  Confused, I asked "how"?  He gave me a look as if that was the most ridiculous question and answered.  "My clients are quite wealthy and they took me in their plane and I showed them several properties.  Of course, they drove.  They found one they liked, and we made an offer and then negotiated a deal".  Pretty much the same answer you or I may give.  He now is well known for his speeches.  On selling as a blind man?  No.  Speeches on the area economy and mediation as he is known as one of the top mediation experts in Southern California.  You Google him and you will find many articles about his opinion on the real estate economy and on mediation, but rarely will you see any comment that he is blind.

I will end this blog by suggesting to go to www.klattrealty.comand thoroughly read through the website.  Some of the verbiage of his accident is tough to read and probably is not appropriate to put on a website, but I hope that Dr. Joseph Klatt may enrich your life and career as much as he has mine.
